Leith Links CC Meeting, Monday 29th Sept.

The next meeting takes place on Monday, 29th September. Our usual venue, Duncan Place Resource Centre, Duncan Place has been closed by the City Council due to Health and Safety concerns so our September meeting will be held in the offices of Port of Leith Housing Association. From October the Community Council will move to Leith Community Centre, New Kirkgate. The Agenda for September with the minutes of our August  meeting will be issued next week. As always if you live in the Leith Links area and have concerns over local issues we would be happy to see you.

  1. Dear Jim and all,

    One of the matters discussed last Monday was the proposed change of use at 58-66 Queen Charlotte Street, EH6 7ET to a retail outlet, on behalf of the Coop (14/03693/FUL). The date for comments is 17 October 2014 and I have asked the council if a notice could be put up as there is not one on site, at present. I have also discovered that the coop currently plan opening hours to be 6am to 10pm.

    Suitable grounds for comment/ objection appear to be:
    – this area is not suitable for general retail development and there is sufficient local provision already with a 5 to 10 minute walk (Leith Links Convenience Store, Tesco, Sainsbury Local, Farm Foods, Lidl);
    – opening hours (although the sale of alcohol is a question for the licensing body), particularly given our local issues;
    – delivery trucks and parking;
    – conservation area (bearing in mind that the previous use was for a motorcycle shop).

    I will put together a letter for consideration by the Planning council and will circulate to Jim so he can consider if it is appropriate for Leith Links Community Council to put in a comment.

    Any other individual can also comment on this application to the planning department and also to the licensing board.

    Best wishes

    Hermione
